| Charlie Bullware, Las Vegas October 2011 |
Charlie's co-owner, Jan Chadwick, was kind enough to answer some of my questions about her handsome golden bovine superstar!
1. How did you get involved in owning a bucking bull?
"I was a fan of bull riding, and in 1999 I thought it would be fun to own a bucking bull. I had no idea how to go about it, if it was even anything that could be done, or who to get involved with, so my husband and I contacted our friend Bob Tallman. He gave us a wealth of information about the bull business and suggested we contact Julio and Cindy Moreno since they lived close to us. Our first bull was purchased at the NFR sale, and shortly after we purchased half ownership in a package of five bulls that Julio and Cindy owned. There have been many since then".
2. How long have you co-owned Charlie Bullware?
"Since he was born! He was born to a Skat Kat daughter we purchased from Bill Butler in 2000".
3. What do you attribute Charlie Bullware's long career to?
"Charlie Bullware has a heart as big as the world, and he loves to buck! And, his bloodline/cross is one of the best for athleticism and longevity. Charlie is tough as nails, and SMART. He is one of the very few bulls that bucked in the Futurity's, continued to the Classic's and still bucks in the PBR. In addition, Charlie is on a strict nutritional regimen, and WELL taken care of".
4. Are there any little "Charlie's" on the horizon?
"There are a few little Chuckster's out there! His son, Charlie's Shadow, has been to Futurity's".
5. Any funny stories, habits or fussiness you can share with me?
"Julio told me a funny story about Charlie today. He said he wished he'd had a camera! Charlie was eating and there were geese in the pen that were eating his grain, too. Julio got his rope and threw a loop towards the geese to scare them. He actually roped one of the geese. Anyway, Charlie thought Julio was trying to rope him, so he got out of the way. Then he took his horn and hooked the tail of the rope and threw the rope and the goose! I always think it's funny when he shows his teeth! As far as habits, Charlie has a good habit of running right for the exit gate after he's bucked in the arena. Bad habits, well, he tears things up! He's also ornery to us humans. He doesn't want anybody in his pen or getting too close to it! You don't turn your back to Charlie! Fussy? Yes, he likes his grain! As far as pen mates...he's usually fine with most - to begin with. He'll be buddies at first, then he gets cranky and wants the pen to himself. He got along with Troubadour the longest!"

| A Vegas visit with Charlie, and his neighbor, Sue. Charlie didn't seem to mind me being close to his pen. I even got to scratch his nose several times! |
A HUGE thank you to Jan Chadwick, for taking the time to share about her bull! Thanks also to Julio Moreno who hauls Charlie and takes such good care of him!
Excellent interview, Susan. Thank you so much for loving the PBR's fabulous bulls like I do. I so look forward to more information about these special "boyz"!:-) Charlie, well, who doesn't love that bull?!:-)
