K bar C Looking Ahead

K-C Bucking Bulls is looking ahead to 2013 and ready to get the new year started off with a bang!  But before that happens, K-C owners Kenny & Cristy McElroy, along with their children, Josie and Zack, are busy preparing their bulls for the start of the new season, and busy with life, in general.

Kenny was kind enough to chat with me last night, and update me on his pen of rank bucking bulls.  Naturally, the first bull I inquired about was King Lopez.

Kenny told me that King Lopez is in great shape, as are all the bulls at K-C.  Last week, all the bulls had their "pedicures" done and received their shots.  This coming weekend the bulls will be bucked to get them in to shape and knock off any rust.  Next week, the bovine chiropractor will come out and do any necessary adjustments and massages.

Rock N Roll, a perennial Championship Round bull joined the K-C family at the Finals.  Since being brought to his new home in Ohio, Rock N Roll has gained some weight, adjusted to life up north and fit in with the rest of the bulls on the ranch.

Kenny is excited about some young bulls he has raised, who are making their debut in NYC at the first event of the PBR 2013 season.  Linda's Pet, Candy and Flathead (both UBBI Finalists), and Happy Feet, who was raised in AZ and won some Classic events on the West Coast.  Along with those four young bulls, we will see K-C stars King Lopez, Who Dat, Rock N Roll, Colored by Arctic, Alternator, Street, Lucky 7, South Point, Smoke Stack, Stinger, Rock Star, and Where's the Whiskey.

Along with New York City, Kenny said he hopes to have bulls at 7-8 more PBR events in 2013.  He and Cristy have invested in a new truck and 53 foot trailer to haul their superstar bulls.  The cab is red and will feature Who Dat and King Lopez, in larger than life graphics, as they are the two bulls who got things rolling for K-C.

Life at home is also very busy as Kenny & Cristy's daughter Josie prepares college applications, son Zack helps out with feeding the bulls, and Kenny continuing his treatment after cancer surgery this past summer.  Kenny told me he is feeling good and looking forward to getting this treatment behind him!  After Christmas, he will be making a trip to Louisiana to visit partner Keith Strickland, and buck some yearling bull calves.  There are also some two year olds they will buck with a heavier dummy to see how these youngsters are progressing.  These calves are out of Cool Spot, Stinger and Gusto.

Miracle bull, Cool Spot
Speaking of Cool Spot, I checked on him to see how the miracle bull is doing.  Kenny said Spot is doing great.  He will get bucked next weekend, then probably taken to Louisiana for the winter.  Kenny did mention it will be hard to leave him behind, when the bulls are taken to New York.  Cool Spot hates to be left off the truck!  But it was right after NY last year that Spot got so sick and almost died, so Kenny does not want to take any chances with his special bull.  But we could possibly, maybe see Cool Spot at a BFTS event next year???  I sure hope so!!

So there is a lot going on at the K-C ranch....all of it good!  I am excited to get to NYC and see the K-C bulls buck. And, I wish Kenny & Cristy the best of luck, good health and success in 2013!

Thank you, Kenny, for taking some time out of your busy day to chat with me.  All of us K-C fans are happy to learn what's ahead in 2013!!
