Tulsa Tid-bits

Bushwacker

Happy days are here again!  The PBR returned from it's summer break this past weekend, and what a great event it was!  The bovine power was outstanding in Tulsa, in fact, I believe we fans witnessed greatness seeing reining World Champion bull Bushwacker and #2 bull Asteroid buck back to back in the Championship round Saturday night.  Bushwack coming off injury was stunning.  His moves were sharp, powerful and dazzling as he turfed young cowboy Mason Lowe in 2.3 seconds.  Bushwacker posted a 46.25 point score which beat Asteroid’s score of 46 points.  Both bulls were incredible!! but I think Asteroid coming out of the chute backwards hurt his score.  But then Asteroid kicked in to high gear and bucked Justin Koon off in 2.1 seconds.

As you can see, I’m still buzzing over Bushwacker and Asteroid!  But I will try to focus on the other great bulls and exciting moments of Tulsa.  Friday night was a Classic bull competition.  I always enjoy seeing these 3 and 4 year olds buck.  They are feisty in the chutes and out in the arena.  They are still learning the routine and are not as polished as some of the older, more experienced bulls.

In the line-up Friday night were sons of some great PBR bulls: Highjack, son of I’m a Gangster; Mud Wasp, son of Mossy Oak Mudslinger; Lovin’ the Business, son of Voodoo Child; and Davis/Clapp 311, son of Scene of the Crash.  How exciting is it to see the next generation coming along?  Highjack looked a lot like his Daddy, wild in the chute and big kick in the arena.  He posted a 43.75 point score.  I thought Mud Wasp resembled Mudslinger in the head shape and horns.

Classic leader, Shepherd Hills Tested posted a respectable score of 44.25 points, and seemed to get stronger as the ride went on.  He is unridden in 10 attempts.  I personally think he is the one to beat this year, but who knows?  It will be an exciting competition in Las Vegas!  The eventual winner of Tulsa’s Classic competition was Mickey Mouse.

Rowdy All Night posted a 44.75 point score
The short go Friday night produced only 2 rides.  The round winner Kody Lostroh on Jack Daniel’s After Party combined for a 90.25 point ride.  It was  an exciting ride as both cowboy and bull gave it all they had!
Delco (43.25), Train Wreck (44), Rowdy All Night (44.75), After Party (44.25), Tremors (45), Palm Springs (43.75), RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (44.25), Too Sexy (43.25), Cowboy Casanova (44.75) and Red Hot (44.25) all performed strongly and picked up right where they left off after the summer break.

The “LOL” moment of the weekend was when the gate opened on Saturday night and PFI’s Boot Daddy took one step then stood still for 4 seconds.  It was quite comical, and obviously the cowboy received a reride since Boot Daddy wasn’t “in the game”.  Boot Daddy is a great bull and I hope he is given another shot at bucking in the PBR!

The Built Ford Tough Championship Round Saturday night was dominated 100% by the bulls!  The beastly buckers were outstanding...truly great!  Quiet Riot (43.25), Rock & Roll (44.75), Asteroid (46), Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey (45.75), Bushwacker (46.25), David’s Dream (45.25). Mulligan Man (44.25), Shepherd Hill’s Trapper (44), Meat Hook (44.25), and Rango (45.75) allowed no rides and proved why they were all in the line-up for the Championship round!  I know the Cowboys were disappointed but this bull lover was thrilled to see the bovines go 10-0!

Shepherd Hill's Trapper
This line-up was probably one of the strongest championship round line-ups we’ve seen this year, but we can’t forget great bulls like Buckey, Smackdown and King Lopez!  With all these great bulls, I think we need to have 15 in the championship round...or what the heck! 20...just so we can witness these amazing bulls bucking all together!

It was a great event and somehow life seems better now that the bulls are bucking again and the PBR is back in action!   Looking forward to next weekend already! :)

  1. I am really impressed by the Sheperd Hills' bulls. David's Dream is another one that I'm keeping my eye one. Gotta love Bushwaker and Asteroid!
